How to Maintain the Motivation to Hit Your Goals
First half marathon done! January 1st kicked off my 2017 goal to run one marathon a month. We actually ran two back-to-back but the first one was on December 31st, so it didn’t count towards my goal. My husband, Mike, and I have gotten most of our runs planned for this year. I am really excited about some of them. It feels really good to be excited about running again. It took a minute to get over the hump. February we are doing the Natural Bridge Caverns Half in San Antonio. It’s a trail run that actually starts in the caves. Sounds super cool! We are looking hard and serious about one in Mexico in October. I was surfing the web looking at different races and happened upon it. It attracted me because the finisher medal has sugar skulls on it. Crazy fact about me; I love and collect sugar skulls, and I don’t know why. If it doesn’t happen this year, it will happen at some point. Mark my words!
Set goals and make them fun and interesting to achieve. Meet people with similar interests and goals and achieve them together. Sometimes a little accountability helps, or just being inspired by the other person to push yourself to be better. I have recently met two individuals that I am completely inspired by. Janelle helps me push myself physically and Val helps me push myself mentally. I love it.
Janelle is a 42 year old accomplish runner. She has run the Boston Marathon three times. If you are unfamiliar with running, you have to qualify to be able to run this race. It’s hard! Running Boston is on my bucket list! Janelle’s passion for running is contagious. Listening to her talk about her personal runs inspires me. She also is incredibly supportive to other runners, and she wants to help you improve. Val is a 57 year old successful corporate woman. She has been with her company for close to thirty years. Even with her success, she is still furthering her education. She is working on college courses towards another degree. Her desire to continue to better herself is aspiring. She is one of the happiest, most positive people I have ever met. Having these two ladies in my life is a blessing. Surround yourself with inspiring people that make you want to strive for a better you.
